As we continue to grow, we’re thrilled to introduce our new Head of Broker Engagement, Barbara Miller. We spoke with Barbara about her commitment to digital transformation and her vision for enhancing broker-insurer-client relationships.
Can you give us a quick overview of your career?
“I’ve had a varied career, from running my own sales and marketing business for insurance brokers, to senior roles in direct sales and operations at top IT groups and UK brokerages. Most recently, I was Group Head of Sales Operations at Clear Insurance Management Ltd.
I started in media publications, captivated by the energy of sales. I moved from customer service into sales, discovering that a business thrives when it has the right foundations for growth and every part works holistically to benefit everyone involved.”
What are your ambitions with Broker Insights?
“As our industry evolves, we must adapt while preserving the human element. Broker Insights excels at enabling clear foresight, allowing brokers to focus on building their businesses and valuable relationships.
I aim to help brokers achieve better client outcomes through digital transformation. I knew I wanted to join an Insurtech, and Broker Insights felt like the perfect fit, at the right time. Vision’s ability to pinpoint opportunities, aligned with risk appetite, allows people to focus efforts in the right places. We are a people industry, and technology that gives client facing professionals more time back to focus on strategic partner relations and clients’ needs, is a mission I wanted to put my experience behind.
I’m also passionate about supporting the next generation in our industry. The insurance industry is not alone in its ever-increasing skills gap. We need to blend modern techniques with traditional values to support both our developing professionals and emerging risks.”
What are you most passionate about?
“People are my passion. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing someone’s ‘lightbulb’ moment. Supporting people through change, things that may be outside of their comfort zone or their normal pattern of work to realise personal and professional goals, is win-win for me.”
What drives you in your career, and how do you approach your role?
“Self-development and progress are my core values. My career has been driven by my intrinsic need to simplify and solve people’s problems. I’ve drawn lessons from every experience and used them to develop myself, and people around me, moving things forward whilst maintaining a strong client focus. Engagement is about involvement, commitment and connection to something, and that is a two-way thing. I’ll approach my role with that in mind to achieve successful outcomes for the business and our clients.”
