When you believe – as we do – that your people are your biggest asset, their wellbeing becomes a top priority.
With more than 1 in 4 people across the UK experiencing a mental health concern in any given year, Broker Insights is focused on creating a safe and supportive workplace, where team members are encouraged to reach out for help if they are struggling, where stigma around mental health no longer exists, and where our people are equipped with the right knowledge and tools to provide valuable support to their colleagues.
To help us build this environment, three members of our team have recently completed the 2-day Mental Health First Aid course run by MHFA England, with a further 4 also attending in the coming weeks. These colleagues come from different teams within the business and represent a diverse range of backgrounds and genders, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity.
Broker Insights’ Chief People Officer Melissa Mentiplay emphasises the importance of this initiative.
“Achieving great outcomes for our customers and our partners starts with ensuring great outcomes for our people in their personal wellbeing journeys. This training not only equips members of our teams with the skills to recognise and support those facing challenges, but it also gives them the tools to practice self-care while doing so, and promotes an open dialogue around mental health and wellbeing.”
Head of Marketing, Peter Townsend, reflects on his participation in the Mental Health First Aid course.
“Having completed the course, I am pleased to have a better understanding of the frameworks and approaches that can be used for mental health support, both in my professional and personal life.”
Partnership Development Manager, Richard Wade, explains why he wanted to complete the course.
“I’ve always been someone who wants to be there and help others as much as I can, and I’ve also experienced my own share of mental health issues in the past. So as someone who’s ‘been there, done that’ I wanted to learn how I can use my own experiences to better help and support others who may be going through a hard time. It’s even more important when a lot of our workforce works remotely, as it’s easy for people to become isolated, so having Mental Health First Aiders within the business is increasingly important in today’s world.”
Our commitment to mental health goes beyond training; it’s about fostering a culture of empathy and understanding. By empowering our staff with Mental Health First Aid skills, we are taking proactive steps to ensure that everyone at Broker Insights feels valued and supported. Together we are building a workplace where mental health is openly discussed, and where every team member knows that they are not alone.
