Hi Matthew, what is your role in the team?
One big part of my role is heading up the development team where we take business requirements and bring them into reality. I also deal with all the architecture that runs our platform. Lastly, I am the voice for technology across the business – working with the other managers to make the businesses’ use of technology as efficient and secure as it can be.
What do you do day-to-day?
I still enjoy writing code when possible. I also like to see the team members picking up challenging tasks, work through them and grow their own competencies and confidence when they see it being used in production.
Why do you enjoy working at Broker Insights?
I feel I have been allowed to show my abilities in technology and supported in establishing myself as a leader. My voice is heard, this has given me a real opportunity to assist in steering the business in the right direction.
What’s your background and why does this make you an ideal person to do your current role?
I believe the life experience I have gained through working in my own start-ups, as well as call centres, restaurants and the like, have lead me to have a different perspective on software to most programmers. I appreciate that business goals have to be met and take a pragmatic outlook on how they can be achieved, while maintaining the best practices that any software team should strive to adhere to.
